Congratulations to Bill Lander, manager of Hampton Bros., the Company’s subsidiary factory at Netherton, who yesterday celebrated his 50th birthday.
Before he went to Netherton, last November, he was for three years in the buying department and his 16 years service at East Tilbury was of steady promotion, including retail department tock keeper, despatch controller, supplier, group supplier, chief leather examiner, foreman of two conveyor workshops and a manipulation department and floor manager in charge of the women’s shoe floor of the leather factory.
A general favourite, and always cheerful, he was boxes buyer when in the buying department, and was well known outside the factory for the effective and colourful decorative schemes he carried out at dances and other social events at the Bata Hotel. A few weeks ago before going to Netherton, he married Sister Ruby Wells, then in charge of the First Aid Centre.
