Stable companion to Bill JOnes is one of the four new women members of the MAC - Ruth Holland, who does trimming in Dept 321, where sandshoes in a variety of gay colours are made.
While a little older than most of the workers on this conveyor, a large proportion of whom are men and women in their teens or early twenties, she is, herself, of the younger generation.
Fellow-workers know her as a reliable and sympathetic colleague to whom to refer problems , or ask for advice, and her election to the MAC was very popular with them.
She, also, is pleased to be a member, and was pleasantly surprised to find herself, with Bill, at the top of the poll.
“I would like to thank the workers for the confidence they showed in me,” she said, “and to tell them that I hope they will not hesitate to come to me if they have something for their MAC member. The MAC is an ideal organisation for management and workers to exchange views, and to discuss in a friendly way, matters of mutual interest.
“It is in my opinion, essential that there should be such co-operation, in any large industry, and the MAC her is an outstanding example.
“Of course, like every other MAC member, we try first to solve the problem.
