Stoker 1st Class in the Royal Navy serving aboard H.M.S.Exmoor, he died on 25th February 1941.
He was born on 12th August, 1900, son of George and Eliza Stammers and husband of Eva Annie Stammers, nee Hearl, of Stanford-le-Hope Essex. They were married at Horndon on the Hill in 1925 had two children, Yvonne (born 1928) and Lionel Ernest (born 1933).
He was employed by the Brith Bata Shoe Company on 7th December 1933 after leaving employment as a Cleaner at Walshams. Whilst working at East Tilbury he was in Department 770 and the Building Department. He was one of the Factory's oldest workers, having worked for the contractor who erected the first factory building before transferring to the Bata Shoe Company in December 1933. The photograph of Ernest and Eva Stammers is circa 1940 and was possibly taken in Featherstone Road, Stanford-le-Hope.
